Silver VS Powder 2, 07/10
Silver and Powder 2 played off on Monday evening to a game that saw Harv Hazan debut as lone pitcher for Silver. After a rocky start and 5 runs allowed in the second inning, Harv settled in and the Silver D helped him out with 3 double plays to hold Powder off for most of the game. Silver battled back with some stellar hitting from Michal “Sless” Schlesinger (3 for 3 and a homer shy of the cycle) and Evan “Tippy Toes” Salofsky who roped two hits to deep right. As the fog descended in the 5th and with the score all tied up in the bottom half, Harv “JIT (just in time)” Hazan blasted a liner to middle right to give Silver the 10-9 win.
Under the threat of rain, Powder2 and Purple played a great game on Thursday. Kevin Green and Michael Wolfman pitched well for Powder striking out 11. Gary Tenenbaum pitched a gem for Purple, going the distance and pitching to contact. Backed by solid defence particularly Rich Stein at third and Bruce Dorland at short, Purple won 7-1.
It was a team effort offensively, with Mike Schipper driving in 2, Jeff Glaizel hitting a clutch rbi double and Brian Lidsky going 4 for 4 with a triple and 3 rbis. Powder hit the ball hard all night, but kept hitting it at the fielders.
Double Blue vs Black
The early game on Monday July 10th saw Double Blue defeating Black in a pitching matchup of competitive friends … Adam H. for Black, and Larry K. subbing in for the pitching deprived Double Blue. Larry K. helped his own cause by hitting a 3-run homer to cap the 5-run second inning. Double Blue went on to cruise to a win by a touchdown, 14-7, behind some solid defence Of particular note was a full lay out (Kevin “superman” Pillar style) catch in right field by rookie Jesse Laibovitz. When asked afterwards, Jesse acknowledged it was worth the two bruised ribs, but had it been 3 or 4 ribs, he would think again.
